I am proud to be one of the first interior designers in the UK to be ‘Certified Cruelty Free’.  In addition to my standard design services, I am now able to offer clients Cruelty Free (vegan) design as an option for clients’ business or home interiors. It’s very easily and effectively done and I’ll be happy to show you options as part of the design process.

Aside from the obvious benefits of not having animal suffering involved, alternative specifications are just as good and often are better performing.  There are also health and wellness benefits – particularly to people suffering with allergies or with sensory issues.  I really want to give clients long-lasting interiors but also healthy ones that have low environmental impact.

This all comes very naturally to me as I spent 10 happy years working as a Retail Designer at The Body Shop International (which incidentally started with me writing a “Dear Anita….” letter as a newly graduated designer).  At The Body Shop everything was carefully sourced and specified for their retail interiors.  So when I heard about the ‘Certified Cruelty Free’ course I decided to top up my knowledge.  It’s a hard course to do and I learned a great deal.

During my time at The Body Shop International, I was Technical Store Designer for the Global Centre of the business.  The team designed, trialled and roll-out out store, concession and kiosk concepts Globally. All materials and suppliers were carefully scrutinised, working closely with the Business Ethics team. I also learnt alot from being a ‘Values Champion’- I was part of the team that was selected from across the business who ensured the company’s values were adhered to in the day-to-day running of the business.  I also like to bring these ethical sourcing learnings to my client’s projects.

Interior design isn’t just about people and spaces, it sadly involves animals (and tannery workers) in shockingly horrible ways.  If any interior designers would like to know more about the course or to share and collaborate on learnings – please get in touch with me.
